The cultivar Acer
shirasawanum ‘Jordan’, (the English translation of Giordano)
was selected directly on their Nurseries and is characterised by
the luminosity of the yellow leaf colour that lasts unchanged from
the spring to the end of summer. Of a bright tonality, almost like
a ray of moonlight, it assumes a really unique aspect in the assortment
of yellow leafed varieties. At maturation, the leaves take on the
typical form of A. shirasawanum species with 9/11 lobes and lightly
serrated margins.
The apical branches of the new vegetation are of a pastel colour
in the part most exposed to the sun, and this further emphasises
the straw yellow colour of the leaves. The young apical leaves are
very broad and at the beginning have a palmate form; in the first
phases they have rose-orange coloured margins.
The light quivering of the leaves rocked by an afternoon breeze
until the beginning of sunset emphasises the many shades that derive
from the contrast between soft and bright colours.
A vigorous plant with an erect multibranched growth habit. The bark
of the trunk and adult branches is of a grey colour with vertical
white striping.
Zone 6 (Europe 7); minimum temperature -15°C to - 20°C
