Acer palmatum "Butterfly"

This is a small variegated leaf maple tree, truly spectacular.
Leaves vary in shape, it is rare to find two the same, generally speaking with 5 or 7 lobes, each lobe is different (some short, some long). Most of the old growth leaves have irregular shapes, the new ones instead have more evenly shaped lobes. The variegated colour is basically creamy with bluish and light green shades.
In spring some remarkable pink striation appear on the borders of the white or creamy areas of the leaves. In autumn the white areas turn an extraordinary Magenta colour thus changing completely the look of the tree.
Branches grow compact thus giving the appearance of a thick shrub. The habit is strictly erect and the new buds and twigs are very thin and delicate.
