This maple is of a nice dark red or blackish-red colour, which it keeps up to late summer. It can brown slightly in hot sun light. The leaf shape is typical palmatum. The length can be up to 10 cm and the width up to 12 cm. The lower leaf is a bright greenish brown, the Autumn colouring is crimson. The protruding seeds are deep red in colour and make the plant even more beautiful. This strong growing Maple has an erect habit and can reach 5 or 6 metres in height when mature. The strong branches make for its rather wide shape, where the tree's height and width are almost equal.
