Acer palmatum "Beni schichihenge"
(red and changeable)
The variegated colours of its leaves mark out this cultivar.
It is similar to 'Kagiri nishiki' and to 'Butterfly' but for the striations
which are of an even orange-pink colour.
Each leaf is different for shape and size, some leaves have five, others
seven lobes and can reach 6 cm in length and width. Some lobes are slender
and even, while others are twisted and of variable width. The basic colour
is green with edges of marked white brushed with pinkish-orange colour.
Sometimes the whole lobe is orange.
The plant grows erect up to 2 metres, but it is classified as a large
shrub. It is not a strong growing tree but is full of small branches.
