This pleasant dwarf variety is rather peculiar in its Spring growth. On opening the leaves are of a pale orangy-yellow colour while the edges are a brighter yellow colour.
Later in the season the inner leaves become green. The Autumn colouring ranges from bright yellow to orange.
'Katsura' is a small-leafed cultivar, the majority of the leaves are 3 cm long, sometimes on a vigorous growth they can reach 4, 5 cm.
This plant is a reduced development form with leaf-nodes and twigs very close together. It does not grow taller than 2 metres at full maturity. Repeated pruning will make it more compact. This cultivar is suitable for growing as a Bonsai.
