Acer palmatum dissectum atropurpureum

"Ornatum"

The Spring colouring is of a special shade of red, bronze-red. It is very bright and stands out in the landscape. It turns greenish in late Summer to change to a red orange/crimson colour in Autumn. The plants can grow up to 3 metres in height, they have a globe-like shape over 3 metres wide. This is a rather old cultivar that comes from European nurseries. It was very popular in the past for its characteristic colours.
However more recent selections were obtained which would maintain better their deep colour shades, and so its popularity declined. It makes good colour contrast in the landscape and is rather strong.
