Acer palmatum dissectum atropurpureum

"Inaba shidare"

This important dissectum differs from the others of the same type for the deep colours and the shape of its leaves, which are particularly large, with lobes up to 10 cm in length. The whole leaf can be up to 15 cm long. The deep purple Spring colouring is maintained throughout the Summer.
The leaves do not brown at the end of the season, like for other 'reds'. The Autumn colours are bright: changing from purple to crimson.
This cultivar can be considered the 'Palmatifidium' red equivalent.
It is a strong plant with a drooping shape, the branches are neither thin nor excessively delicate. The Japanese say that in the rain this plant looks like a 'Ine' (rice plant) hence the name 'Ina ba' = leaf similar to a rice plant; Shidare = drooping. There was also an old 'Ine' type which used to take up a crimson colouring in Autumn.
