Much appreciated for its foliage which is a brilliant colour in Spring. The little leaves at the earliest stage of development are of a bright carmine-red colour. The plant maintains its vivid colouring for a long time in Spring. Even at the beginning of the Summer the contrast between the red colour of the apical leaves from the new buds and the green of the leaves below is quite noticeable.
The 'Deshojo' basic colour for the rest of the year is a nice deep green. The leaves are typically palmated in shape.
It grows into a rather tall bush (3 metres), generally as high as it is wide, with an erect habit.
